My main goal is to develop a structuralist and process ontology based upon by Apostel’s worldviews project by means of structural scientific realism and philosophy of symbolic forms. More specifically, I will elaborate the conceptual framework of an ontology in which both the related notions `structure’, `relation’ and `function’ as well as the related notions of `process’ and `activity’ are combined into the concept  `being’. As a basis, I will use Leo Apostel’s ontology in which `being’ is analysed in terms of the concepts `system’ and `non-nomological singular causality’. My ontology will be devised in such a way that the notion `being’ relates to questions concerning the meaning of life and lived experience and incorporates the ontological commitments of scientific theories. Next to Apostel’s work, also Ernst Cassirer’s `Philosophie der symbolischen Formen' (PSF) will play a prominent role in the project. PSF is both a structuralist as well as a process philosophy. I will use elements of PSF for the meaning/experience dimension of my ontology.
